7 Power Skills that Build Strong Relationships A strong, healthy relationship is one in which the partners show respect and kindness toward each other. The relationship forms a rewarding and enduring bond of trust and support.

Here are seven power skills that will help you form stronger alliances and bring more closeness, authenticity and trust to your relationships.
1. Relax Optimistically
If you are comfortable around others, they will feel comfortable around you. If you appear nervous, others will sense it and withdraw. If you are meeting someone for the first time, brighten up as if you’ve rediscovered a long-lost friend. A smile will always be the most powerful builder of rapport. Communicating with relaxed optimism, energy and enthusiasm will provide a strong foundation for lasting relationships.

2. Listen Deeply
Powerful listening goes beyond hearing words and messages; it connects us emotionally with our communication partner. Listen to what the person is not saying as well as to what he or she is saying. Focus intently and listen to the messages conveyed behind and between words. Listen also with your eyes and heart. Notice facial expressions and body postures, but see beneath the surface of visible behaviors. Feel the range of emotions conveyed by tone of voice and rhythm of speech. Discern what the person wants you to hear and also what they want you to feel.

3. Feel Empathetically
Empathy is the foundation of good two-way communication. Being empathetic is seeing from another person’s perspective regardless of your opinion or belief. Treat their mistakes as you would want them to treat your mistakes. Let the individual know that you are concerned with the mistake, and that you still respect them as a person. Share their excitement in times of victory, and offer encouragement in times of difficulty.

Genuine feelings of empathy will strengthen the bond of trust.

4. Respond Carefully
Choose emotions and words wisely. Measure your emotions according to the person’s moods and needs. Words can build or destroy trust. They differ in shades of meaning, intensity, and impact. What did you learn when listening deeply to the other individual? Reflect your interpretation of the person’s message back to them. Validate your understanding of their message.

Compliment the person for the wisdom and insights they’ve shared with you. This shows appreciation and encourages further dialogs with the individual. A response can be encouraging or discouraging. If you consider in advance the impact of your emotions and words, you will create a positive impact on your relationships.

5. Synchronize Cooperatively
When people synchronize their watches, they insure that their individual actions will occur on time to produce an intended outcome. Relationships require ongoing cooperative action to survive and thrive. As relationships mature, the needs and values of the individuals and relationship will change. Career relationships will require the flexibility to meet changing schedules and new project goals.

Cooperative actions provide synchrony and build trusting alliances. They are part of the give and take that empowers strong, enduring relationships.

6. Act Authentically
Acting authentically means acting with integrity. It means living in harmony with your values. Be yourself when you are with someone else. Drop acts that create false appearances and false security. When you act authentically, you are honest with yourself and others. You say what you will do, and do what you say. Ask for what you want in all areas of your relationships. Be clear about what you will tolerate.

Find out what your relationship partners want also. Being authentic creates mutual trust and respect.

7. Acknowledge Generously
Look for and accentuate the positive qualities in others. Humbly acknowledge the difference that people make to your life. Validate them by expressing your appreciation for their life and their contributions.

If you let someone know that they are valuable and special, they will not forget you. Showing gratitude and encouragement by words and actions will strengthen the bonds of any relationship. Don’t forget to acknowledge your most important relationship: the relationship with yourself. Acknowledge your own qualities, and put those qualities into action.

You cannot form a stronger relationship with others than you have with yourself. You will attract the qualities in others that are already within you. Ask yourself: What thoughts and behaviors will attract the kind of relationships I desire? What is one action I could take today that would empower my current relationships?

Write down all the qualities or behaviors that you desire for your relationships. Select the power skills that will attract those qualities. Keep a journal of the actions you take and the progress you make. By turning these skills into lifelong habits, you will build relationships that are healthy, strong and mutually rewarding.

Men and women think differently about romance. Men are goal-oriented. They measure their success by their achievement. Unconsciously, they tend to divide their relationship into two phases – courtship and ‘Keepership’.

The aim of courtship is to woo the woman and win her affection. During the courtship, he is the hunter while she is the hunted. During the hunt, he can be wonderfully charming, thoughtful and sensitive. He attends to her every whim and fancy. He is sensitive to her feelings and needs. He pays great attention to every detail. He will go to great length to please her.

If necessary, he will climb the highest mountain, swim the widest river, and bungee jump, just for her. He may send flowers or a loving note after a romantic date. But once her heart is captured, the courtship is over. When the hunt is over, so is romance. When he senses the woman cares for him, he changes. His victory is assured. Having captured her heart, she is like a trophy for keeps. Women tend to be different. They want romance to continue; they are disappointed when it ceases. Women often feel shortchanged by men when romantic behavior fades.

Women complain that men take them for granted. For most men, romance is a means to an end; to many women, romance is an end in itself. Most men don’t feel discomfort with romance; they love it. Guess who read romantic novels – the women of course! Men, on the other hand, are anxious to get over with the pursuit so that they can stop worrying, relax and enjoy the rewards of victory. While women tend to equate pursuit with love, men often equate not having to pursue with love. Having possessed her love, he can stop pursuing her.

Before marriage, men often declare their undying love with the magic words, “I love you.” But after marriage, they hardly utter those words. The excuse men gave is that they have not changed their mind since they declared their undying love at the altar; and if he ever changes his mind, he would tell her. They feel they don’t have to remind her that ‘I love you’ everyday. What a dilemma for the women! Is there any hope for romance? Of course there are. A committed relationship need not be without romance and passion. If a woman wants her man to be romantic, here are some things she can do. Do not hassle him to buy you presents, bring you flowers or accompany you for shopping. Men do not like to be told what to do.

If you keep nagging him, you will probably succeed in making him feel pressured and guilty, but you are not going to get him to feel more romantic. Even if he dutifully gives in and brings home a dozen roses from the florist, it will probably be mere compliance. Romance has to come from the heart, not out of obligation.

The smart woman knows that compliance is an enemy of romance. Let him feel it is his ideas, not yours. Simply allow him to enjoy being loved. Interpret his diminished need to be romantic as a compliment, as a hallmark of his trust in you. He is assured of your love. You are safely in his fold. Therefore he does not feel the need to woo you and to remind you of his love for you. Understand the psychology of men. Do the unexpected.

Reward him occasionally. Keep him in suspense. To be predictable is to be boring. Be unpredictable. Men enjoy the chase. Put him in a competition so that he will not take you for granted. Be vague. The uncertainty stimulates him, motives him to re-embark on the romantic chase; it drives him wild. Remember, for men, romance is a goal-oriented behavior, a time when they are uncertain of a woman’s feeling towards them. The key word is uncertainty. When men are uncertain, they become more romantic.

There are many types of kissing which you can explore with your partner after your very first kiss in a new relationship. Kissing can be fun, romantic and also a useful way to express your love, passion and maintains that intimacy.

Being creative with your kissing methods can be an additional beauty and strength in your relationship.

However, for first time kissers, it is best to stick to the convential, confortable way of kissing, because getting too creative at your first kiss my turn your partner off if he or she is not used to it.

Suck Kissing

This can be a very seductive type of kiss. Instead of French Kissing with your mouth open, while your partner’s lips are parted suck on their top our bottom lip with your own, just for a second or two. Then go back to another type of kiss or try the other lip.

Nip Kissing

This type of kiss has to be done carefully, but when done correctly can create a wonderful effect on your date. While suck kissing, gently bite their lip, but be VERY gentle so as not to hurt your date / partner. This kiss should only be done with someone that you’ve kissed a few times before, otherwise you may shock your partner.

Surprise Kissing

This type of kiss is done when your partner is lying down on a sofa or the ground, either asleep or just lying with their eyes closed. Quietly approach your partner and place a small, very gentle kiss on their lips. Intensify the kiss until your partner opens their eyes or awakens.

This is the most popular type of kiss. This involves touching your tongue with your partner’s and it can be quite a pleasant experience. There are a few tips to create a great french kiss.

Open Lips - Open your lips over your partner’s slightly more than you would during a regular kiss. This makes it easier to place your tongue in your partner’s mouth.

Tongue – Place the tip of your tongue on the tip of your partner’s tongue. Do not force your tongue too far into their mouth. If you wish, you can play with their tongue by circling theirs with your own. Have fun with it. Explore.

Lips - You may explore different ways of using your tongue. Try running the tip of your tongue over your partner’s lips. Do this slowly and gently, just using the tip of your tongue.

<font size="4"color="#ff0000">Basic Kissing Tips

Great Breath – This is very important. Make sure you brush your teeth before going out on your date. There is nothing worse than kissing someone with bad breath.

If your date consists of having something to eat before the actual kiss, make sure you have a mint on hand to take right after you finish eating. Don’t take the mint just before the kiss or chew on gum. You don’t want to have something in your mouth when you kiss.

Moist Lips – You want your lips to be slightly moist when you kiss. Run your tongue over your lips once before you kiss. Don’t wear lip gloss because that tends to make the kiss too gooey.

And don’t wear a lot of lipstick unless you want your partner to wear it too after the kiss. Slightly moist lips makes it easier to move your lips over your partner’s and gives both you and your partner a more pleasant experience.

Positioning - Stand close to your partner. As the two of you move closer together tilt your head slightly. If you can see which way your partner’s head is tilting, tilt your head slightly in the opposite direction.

Close Eyes – Just before your lips meet, close your eyes. Some people prefer to leave their eyes open during the kiss. But until you know what your partner prefers, it is best to close your eyes.

Open Lips – Open your mouth slightly and place your lips over your partner’s lips. Do not hold your breath! Breath through your nose. As your lips meet, press them gently over your partner’s. You may wish to move your lips in a slow, circular motion or just leave them still over your partners.

Closed Lips – This is like the type of kiss you’d give your grandma or aunt. Instead of opening your mouth when your lips meet, keep them closed. This is also a good way of letting your partner know this is as far as it goes. It also makes a great hello/good-bye kiss or a great first time kiss if you’re nervous.

Conventional wisdom tells us that absence makes the heart grow fonder. On the opposite end: out of sight, out of mind. So how can one keep a long distance relationship from falling apart? Will you hope that distance will stimulate love? Or hammer out the means to prevent the relationship from falling apart, and dying.

In today’s world, the challenge of a long distance relationship is even more difficult. More and more young men and women are moving and working in distant places. The sensations of touching, cuddling, and caressing are no longer available. Spending quality time with each other is also not there. Another thing one might not realize is missing is the occasional argument. These little arguments actually reinforce relationships, and bring couples closer together.

So how do couples keep their long distance relationships going? One thing you can do is keep pictures near by to always remind you of them. Put one on your night stand so they are the last thing you see before sleep. Take one to work so you see them all day. This will remind you of your partner, and if you are truly in love, you will cherish every moment your eye catches one of the pictures. Also, talk about your friends with your partner so they do not feel out of the loop.

Use online services such as e-mail, chat, and especially voice chat to keep in constant touch with your partner. Talk about more than how much you miss each other. Good conversation is a must to keep a long distance relationship alive. Talk about your day, and do not forget to ask how their day is going. Interest in your partner’s day to day activities will also keep them interested in you.

Make an effort to see each other once a month or every couple of months if the situation makes traveling difficult. Make sure you do your part to go to them instead of them always coming to you. If you can accept the fact you will have to put in a little work to keep the long distance relationship alive, and your partner feels the same, you will have nothing to worry about!
